Junior Achievement: Finance Park
Los Angeles, California
Junior Achievement, a global philanthropic organization, brings educators, volunteers, and members of the business community together to teach key concepts of entrepreneurship, such as financial literacy and work readiness to underprivileged youth. In January of 2011, when DLC set out to establish a company community outreach program, we found a great partner in Junior Achievement where we serve on an as needed basis. When the organization is short on volunteers, we respond by sending out our benched consultants from our Los Angeles and Orange County offices to fill in by teaching basic financial, banking, and budgeting skills to the kids. Our partnership with Junior Achievement not only meets the needs of area youth, but also strengthens our community connection. Plus, our volunteers love that they make a difference in the lives of the kids.
Los Angeles, California
Operation Gratitude sends packages filled with letters of appreciation, handmade items, and non-perishable snacks to wounded heroes and their caregivers, veterans, and military families which includes packages designed to comfort the children of deployed troops. The DLC family began volunteering with Operation Gratitude in 2015. Employees of The DLC Group’s Los Angeles and Orange County area offices attend these volunteer events where they participated in putting together first responder kits for paramedics, firefighters and police officers, as well as assembling care packages to be sent to service persons deployed around the world. The DLC family is honored to participate and support Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude allows us the opportunity to say, “thank you” to the men and women who serve and protect our country and its citizens.
Open Kitchens – Meals on Wheels Program
Downtown Chicago, Illinois
Open Kitchens is a food service company that offers a program funded by the City of Chicago Area Agency on Aging that, along with other endeavors, provides a Meals-On-Wheels program catering to senior citizens, convalescents and persons with disabilities. DLC began partnering with Open Kitchens in 2010. In January of 2018, DLC volunteer attendance numbered around 68 people (29 employees plus two alumni and their 37 guests). The volunteers donated their time to pack New Year’s gift bags for homebound Chicago senior citizens. The gift bags were delivered to Open Kitchens and then distributed to needy seniors who also receive Meals-On-Wheels. At the end of the day, our volunteers, including 20 children, packaged 171 gift bags for elderly residents who likely wouldn’t receive anything else during the holiday season.
St. Vincent Meals on Wheels
Los Angeles, California
Founded in 1977 by Sister Alice Marie Quinn, St. Vincent Meals-On-Wheels has been feeding homebound seniors and vulnerable community members for over 40 years. Every year since 2010, Los Angeles and Orange County area employees of The DLC Group get together to donate their time in support of St. Vincent Meals-on-Wheels. Volunteers come together to fill gift bags for distribution to the homebound and elderly in our community. Often more than 100 bags are stuffed with necessities and some fun things too. The gift bags, traditionally distributed on various holidays, are designed to lift recipient’s spirits. Our volunteers are happy to give back and know their efforts provide a bright spot in the lives of the homebound elderly.
As a purpose driven organization, DLC strives to positively impact not only the lives of our employees, stakeholders and the customers we serve, but the community as a whole.
In late 2010, DLC initiated a program to align core values with corporate goals, including a focus on fostering connectedness and a sense of community among employees vis-à-vis social interaction and charitable volunteer opportunities. In support of this initiative, a designated committee of consultants and corporate management was established to create and implement DLC ‘s Community Outreach Program. To establish a firm foundation for the program, in January 2011 DLC announced its affiliation with Junior Achievement, a global philanthropic organization connecting the business community, educators and volunteers to teach key concepts of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy to underprivileged youth. Following the adopted theme of “Helping Bridge the Gap by Giving Back,” this partnership not only enables DLC employees to give back to the community by sharing their particular expertise, but provides opportunities to connect and interact with fellow consultants and internal members while aligning the company brand with a positive message.
Purpose and Mission.
The Community Outreach Program will evolve over time to eventually incorporate a formal collaboration of a variety of charitable organizations, combining an emphasis on specific organizations where DLC can add value to the community while complementing firm core values. As such, volunteer relationships implemented under this program will share the following attributes:
- Demonstrates alignment with DLC's culture and the firm's overall strategy; for example, "service focused"
- Meets the objectives of connectedness and community
- Provides a forum to practice service leadership
- Classifies as a not for profit 501(c)(3) organization
- Serves the greater community and is not formally affiliated with a particular group, including race, creed, sexual orientation or any specific religious or faith based organization
- Offers flexibility, with respect to DLC's bench model
- As a preference, provides opportunities for consultants in all regions
As this initiative evolves, additional requirements or attributes may be incorporated, at which time the charter (as well as any other relevant documents) will be revised and redistributed in a timely manner. In keeping with the theme of "Helping Bridge the Gap by Giving Back," the committee's charter is to develop charitable volunteer opportunities for DLC involvement including vetting the opportunities and assisting in organizing as well as executing said opportunities.
